NYPD officers fatally shot a 61-year-old Asian man in mental distress at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 31st Street in Astoria, Queens. The man, armed with a 14-inch knife, advanced toward officers despite commands to drop the weapon and unsuccessful taser attempts. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. Shell casings were found at the scene, where multiple NYPD units investigated.
